At the 6 Ranch we've been raising beef since our family founded it in 1884. But we do things differently here, and not without sacrifice. We made the decision decades ago to raise our animals naturally, not to meet anyone's standard of "organic", "all natural", or "free range", but because we believe that nature is our instructor for stewardship and that wild animals are the model for excellence.
- We do not give our cattle ANY vaccinations or antibiotics which are not required by the government.
- We do not use four-wheelers or motorcycles to move the cattle. Horses and cowdogs only. (cowdogs simulate predators in nature, although they don't hurt the cattle)
- Our calves are born in the late Spring of the year, when their mothers can eat green grass and produce milk based on that. (other ranchers need to calve in winter to accommodate a fall market)
- Our cattle eat grass their whole lives, just like deer and elk.
- We do not use fertilizers, chemicals, or any other harmful products on our grasses. We pull weeds by hand or cut them with a shovel.
- We only provide mature animals for beef to ensure excellent flavor, never less than 2 years of age.
On a nutritional level, our beef surpasses the competition. In 2008, we sent 4 ounces of our beef to BodyCote, Inc. a food science lab for analysis. The information above is based on those results in comparison of other 4 oz. sample meat data from USDA National Nutrient Database.
Our beef is available in bulk; quarter/half/or whole carcass. To minimize stress to our animals and reduce transportation costs, our animals are harvested on the ranch, dry-aged and processed at our local custom butcher shop, Valley Meat Services. The meat is packaged in BPA-free plastic that is vacuum-sealed. It will maintain it’s outstanding quality for up to a year in your freezer.
Corriente cattle are much smaller that ordinary beef cattle. The portion sizes are smaller, and the total amount of meat is less overall. They are close to half the size of most other breeds of beef cattle. For additional ordering information, our ordering form with pricing, please check-out the Order page on this web site.
